Mini MAC is an innovative social enterprise run by young people who successfully came through MAC-UK's founding project. The aim of Mini-MAC is to promote mental health to vulnerable and at risk young people through music in schools and pupil referral units.
Mini MAC is open to students of all ages with an interest in DJing, MCing, lyric writing, music production and music performance. It is a great way of improving self-esteem, confidence and creativity.
Youth Music, who fund our Mini MAC project, made this video about the work we're doing in local schools:
The Mini MAC Tutors
Mini MAC sessions are taught by young DJs and MCs who can relate to the students in a unique way, and are supported by our trained MAC-UK staff.

"Shootings and stabbings were taking place on the estate which was having a negative impact on my life, until I met Charlie. I started getting more focussed and eventually progressed to MC tuition in schools. I like teaching kids. I understand what they're going through, and by putting it into lyrics it makes me feel good because I feel like I'm doing something positive. I don't want the kids to go down the same road I was on."

"I was at a stage in my life where there was a lot of negative influences around me and I was one myself. I am a qualified Youth Worker and Lyric Writing Teacher and have a passion for working with young people who are in the same position I was."
Mark won the Attlee Youth Leadership Award 2010

"Before MAC-UK I was constantly on the street doing stupid things. When I got involved with MAC-UK I learned a lot about mental health issues and it helped me help pass some of the knowledge I learned onto young people I teach in schools through the Mini MAC project. Now I have become a more positive person. I love my job as it is very rewarding to see a change in a young person who has no road."

“It was great working in partnership with Mini MAC as part of BP Saturdays Loud Tate 'Underworld' at Tate Britain. The Mini Mac team constructed an engaging and insightful pathway into arts works in the Tate Collection using lyric writing, performance and music to produce a tracks performed by some of the young participants during the event. The workshop created an opportunity for young people for a wide variety of backgrounds to have a sense of ownership and contribution the cultural space of Tate Britain. I would be great to develop future project or the deliver more project like this at Tate.”
